Secrets of success revealed to students
Career Discovery Week at Deutsche Bank brings together students and professionals to explore the dynamic world of banking and finance.
This year’s Career Day at Deutsche Bank brought together students and professionals to explore the dynamic world of banking and finance.
CSR Americas coordinated the bank’s participation in Career Discovery Week, a city-wide initiative that introduces local public high school students to the corporate world and the range of career choices available. Throughout a single week, thousands of sophomores from 140+ schools attend career exploration events hosted by 120+ companies. 2025 was the fourth year Deutsche Bank has hosted a Career Discovery Week event at its offices; three different high schools attended this year.
Participants had the opportunity to hear from regional leaders, who highlighted the evolving landscape of the banking industry and the critical role of banks, describing the financial industry as the “bloodstream of society.”
The event also featured a panel discussion of Deutsche Bank colleagues from across the bank, sharing their unique career journeys and insights. They offered these words of advice to the students:
- "It's all about the group and the team effort. Learning how to work with people around you is critical to success.”
- “Don't be afraid to pivot. Your career doesn't have to be a linear path. Be open to other opportunities that come your way.”
- "Be comfortable being uncomfortable every single day. That is the recipe for success."
Following the panel, the day featured tours of the bank’s trading floor and art collection and a financial literacy workshop on “Budgeting Basics.” The event concluded with a dynamic speed mentoring session, where the students got to meet employees across all businesses, divisions, and corporate titles. Forty employees volunteered to share their experience and insight.
Launched in 2020 as a joint initiative between the Partnership for New York City and New York City Public Schools, Career Discovery Week brings high school students into some of the city’s most vibrant and important workplaces for exciting hands-on career exploration.
To date, more than 200 of the city’s major employers have joined forces to build a bridge from the city’s classrooms to its workplaces. More than 11,000 public high school students have had the chance to gain a better understanding of the future job opportunities available to them as they spend a day at worksites, learning about varied industries and wide-ranging career possibilities.
